Together with its partners, ams OSRAM contributes to making automobile journeys safer and more convenient and provides top-notch optical sensing solutions that help accelerate progress in the automotive industry.

EVIYOS® 2.0: Intelligent forward lighting
EVIYOS® 2.0, 25,600 pixels of individually controllable high-resolution LEDs for excellent brightness, raises automotive headlamp safety to all-new levels of illumination and visualization. In addition to the conventional Low and High beam functions and high-resolution glare-free Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) technology, track assistance and warning symbols can be projected directly onto the road. The demonstrator showcases low/high beams, as well as track assistance and other symbols on the road.

ALIYOS™: LED-on-foil technology
ALIYOS™ from ams OSRAM creates unprecedented effects in automotive lighting. It pushes the boundaries of multi-segmented area lighting and enables the customization of light emission pat-terns. Characteristics such as transparency, thinness, 2.5D bendability and the freedom to create new lighting effects have been realized. This future-oriented LED-on-foil technology enables the creation of customized, multi-segment lights on curved panels in new configurations such as three-dimensional structures or ‘invisible’ light.

SYNIOS® P1515: Expressive and dramatic rear light designs
The SYNIOS® P1515 product family from ams OSRAM enables a hom*ogeneous appearance in extended light bars and other automotive rear lighting applications, making their design far simpler. By replacing top looker LEDs with SYNIOS® P1515 side lookers, a particularly high level of hom*o-geneity can be achieved with the same depth of optical stack as for top looker LEDs, but with substantially fewer LEDs and LED drivers. With the same number of SYNIOS® P1515 LEDs as in a top looker-based arrangement, an RCL (Rear Combination Light) or turn indicator can be created with a far thinner and simpler optical assembly. This opens up new potential to create dramatic and distinctive shapes in new RCL designs.

XLS: eXchangeable LED lightSource
The ECE standard (UN R128) platform makes it easy to switch between modules from different suppliers and is expected to provide economic benefits thanks to standardization for high-volume production. This product, which has been standardized for in-vehicle use, will not only be offered as a highly reliable off-the-shelf product, but will also ensure stable long-term availability and strengthen the supply chain.

In addition, ams OSRAM’s state-of-the-art portfolio comprises a comprehensive range of standard LED components that are essential for vehicle lighting, such as red/amber/white modules for signal lights and white modules for forward lights (fog lights).

OSP: Open System Protocol
Ambient lighting is becoming more and more important for car interior design with backlit trim and dynamic animations. In modern vehicles, it is mostly used to implement functions and seamlessly interact with Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).

To deal with this complexity at a reasonable cost in the centralized system architectures of vehicles, automotive suppliers need a reliable, flexible, and easy-to-implement communication backbone and system architecture.

For this purpose, ams OSRAM has developed its so-called Open System Protocol (OSP). This groundbreaking protocol is open to everybody and free of any license fees. It is based on a mas-ter-slave architecture, allowing users to control up to 1,000 devices individually in a daisy chain topology. The OSP ecosystem is an open protocol platform which can be used by anybody with-out any limitation. This means no licenses and full access to protocol descriptions. Partners can participate in the network, implement the protocol in their own devices and differentiate themselves from competitors by adding their own new features. ams OSRAM has already developed its two first products ready for the OSP ecosystem: OSIRE® E3731i, the intelligent RGB module, and the AS1163 standalone intelligent driver (SAID).

OSIRE® E3731i: Top-notch RGB LEDs for modern ambient lighting
The OSIRE® product family offers individually addressable LED chips for maximum flexibility in terms of color point, driver selection and interconnection in interior ambient lighting. Thanks to their low profile, these products are ideally suited for coupling into thin lightguides, thus enabling ultra-compact designs. At the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2024, ams OSRAM will present a dy-namic illumination demo with hundreds of intelligent OSIRE® E3731i RGB LEDs.

AS1163 SAID: High-efficiency LED driver ICs
The AS1163 SAID (Stand-Alone Intelligent Driver) is a mixed-signal IC optimized for dynamic light-ing applications. Mainly designed to operate 3 RGB LEDs, this state-of-the-art SAID comes with 9 separate LED drivers. Each driver features an independent PWM dynamic range of up to 16 bits. Just like the OSIRE® E3731i, the AS1163 supports the OSP bus (Open System Protocol) for data communication. Since these two groundbreaking products from ams OSRAM are fully compatible with each other, the AS1163 can also be operated in a daisy-chain configuration, even in combina-tion with OSIRE® E3731i units. In addition, the AS1163 supports the parallel operation of up to 8 OSP daisy chains. Complex dynamic lighting scenarios can thus be implemented in an even more flexible and cost-efficient way.

To ensure safe LED operation, the AS1163 enables current and voltage measurements to be per-formed on the individual LEDs and can be optionally used as an I²C gateway. For this purpose, I²C ICs (I²C sensors, I²C actuators and I²C memories) can be connected to the SAID and addressed via the OSP bus.

LiDAR: Light Detection and Ranging
ams OSRAM implements highly innovative technology for wavelength stability over a temperature range on its Edge-Emitting Laser diodes (EELs). This technology enables LiDAR manufactures to apply a much narrower bandpass filter on the RX side to dramatically improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

Simulations performed by ams OSRAM and market feedback suggest that this can result in up to a ~40% range increase thanks to a higher Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). The demonstrator of ams OSRAM will show how stable it is in comparison to conventional technology.

AS8579: The trailblazing capacitive sensor from ams OSRAM
The future is vehicles with autonomous driving ability, for which several driver monitoring features are necessary. One typical application for autonomous driving is the detection of human hands on the steering wheel. The AS8579 capacitive sensor from ams OSRAM is based on a novel capaci-tive measurement technology that enables the separation of the resistive and capacitive parts (amount/share/proportion) of the impedance measured over the sensor element. Even when wear-ing gloves or in humid conditions, this advanced technology more reliably detects the presence of the driver’s hands than is possible with the charge-discharge method of capacitive sensing in use in vehicles today. This means that the AS8579 helps automotive manufacturers improve the safety of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), while also reducing the cost of the Hands-on Detection System (HoD): the AS8579 can sense the impedance of the existing steering wheel’s heater element.
